The Role

The role of Health & Safety Manager at this multi-national food manufacturing business based in Omagh is an essential part of the Senior Operations team. The successful Health and Safety Manager will be key to supporting the delivery of the group’s H&S priority plan whilst winning the hearts and minds of a large and complex food manufacturing group.

This will ultimately determine your ability to successfully instil the proper behaviours, foster a culture of "safety first," and assemble an elite health and safety team across the group.

This is a hands-on position where you should anticipate to be at the coal face building real connections within the business.

The Company

The successful Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for nine sites across the UK & Ireland with over 1400 employees in total. Established over 40 years ago they have a long-standing history of supplying quality products across the world.

Duties Include:

• Develop a robust health and safety policy that articulates the group’s commitment, delineates responsibilities, and outlines procedural guidelines. Ensure alignment with pertinent laws and regulations. Periodically review and update policies to reflect evolving best practices.
• Take responsibility for adherence to safety legislation, regularly updating procedures to align with any changes. Manage regular audits to verify compliance at all levels of the organisation.
• Leading Site Planning and Implementation
• Minimising Operational Losses and Accidents:
• Work with the site management teams and Site Safety Officers to eliminate conflicts between production goals and safety considerations.
• Continuously analyse accidents and near misses, producing statistics and identifying trends for managerial insights.
• Drive team initiatives for continuous improvement and idea sharing regarding health and safety practices. Encourage a proactive safety culture through regular communication and engagement.
• Establish and maintain open communication with regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with mandatory regulations. Proactively address any concerns raised by regulatory bodies.
• This comprehensive plan aims to create a proactive and safety-oriented work environment, fostering continuous improvement and compliance with all relevant health and safety standards.

Skills & Experience Required:

• Demonstrable track record of achievement in a Senior Health and Safety role, with at least 8-10 years experience in management
• Ambition and true self-motivation, the role requires high energy and flexibility
• Excellent communicator, with an engaging, motivational and professional attitude
• Logical thinker, with a systematic and consistent approach, with the courage of their convictions in order to challenge appropriately and where necessary
• Experience in proactively promoting best practices and successfully, engaging factory teams to make and accept change
• Professional diploma/or working towards a professional health and safety management diploma or equivalent.
